LEINSTER AUTUMN OPEN 2016

16-17 sept : Triplé de Rachael

This seasons Leinster Autumn Open took place Friday evening and all day Saturday in The Terenure Badminton Centre.
It was a fantastic entry with a great mix of premier Players competing from each province. The quality and standard of badminton on display was excellent and all those present were treated to great exciting games.

The Finals started at 7.00pm on Saturday evening with the Mixed where Josh Magee & Rachel Darragh (2) took on Ciaran & Sinead Chambers (1). This was a great opener for the finals and it took 3 tight games to separate these pairs, with Josh & Rachael taking the 3rd game to win the title - 22-20,18-21, 21-16.

The Men’s doubles final followed and with Paul Reynolds & Nhat Nguyen (1) taking on Jonathan Dolan and David Walsh (2). A fantastic badminton match played at incredible pace and energy. This was another 3 game match which could have gone either way, but the recent U19 Irish Open winners, Nhat & Paul, showed great resolve to take the 3rd and final game 24-22 – and excellent match.

In the Womens Doubles Final was the 3rd final with the number one seeds taking on the number twos. This was Sara Boyle & Rachael Darragh (1) versus Jennie King & Sinead Chambers (2). This time round Rachael & Sara proved to be too strong and took the Match in 2 games,

The Mens and Womens Singles went on more or less together again with No1 versus No 2 Seeds in both.
In the Womens Singles final – we had the Ladies doubles wining pairing Sara Boyle & Rachael Darragh now facing each other, another 3 game tie with Rachael holding out to win what was Rachael’s 3rd final and win on the night – a truly remarkable achievement by Rachael.

The Mens Singles Final was a fantastic 3 game tie between Nhat Nguyen (1) and Joshua Magee (2).
This was exhibition badminton of the highest standard, incredible long rallies as each vied for that winning shot. In the 3rd game, Nhat proved to be too strong for Josh to add to his recent U19 Irish Open Singles Title where he beat Tangi Gouez.
